Abstract

The Curation and Management of Digital Assets (CMDA) Certificate is a post-master's program that focuses on instruction about and research into the creation, management, and use of digital assets, and the long-term preservation and current and future access to those assets in a variety of disciplines and sectors of the economy. This four-course, fully online certificate designed for working professionals who need training in next-generation cloud computing technologies, tools, resources, and best practices to help them evaluate, select, and implement digital curation solutions.

In the Washington, D.C.-Maryland-Virginia region, across the nation, and around the world, the need for professionals to manage and curate digital assets is acute. Major corporations, government agencies, international organizations, universities, cultural heritage institutions, and scientific organizations need information professionals with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to manage, preserve, and curate digital resources.

  • Letters of Recommendation (1): Letter of recommendation needs to come from a supervisor or someone who can speak to the applicant’s capacity for successfully completing the certificate program.

  • Master’s degree in library/information science; or Master’s degree in related area/relevant experience

The Curation and Management of Digital Assets (CMDA) Certificate is a post-master's program that focuses on instruction about and research into the creation, management, and use; the long-term preservation; and the current and future access to digital assets in a variety of disciplines and sectors of the economy. It is a four-course, fully online certificate designed for working professionals who need training in next-generation cloud computing technologies, tools, and resources to help them evaluate, select, and implement digital curation solutions.

 

The CMDA Certificate requires the completion of four courses, with a minimum 3.0 GPA. The following courses are taken in sequence within one calendar year.
 

  • INST 640: Principles of Digital Curation (3 credits)
  • INST 641: Policy Issues in Digital Curation (3 credits)
  • INST 742: Implementing Digital Curation (3 credits)
  • INST 744: Solving Problems in Digital Curation (Capstone Course) (3 credits)

 

Facilities and Special Resources

The Digital Curation Innovation Center (DCIC) is a leader in research and education in digital curation. The Center fosters interdiciplinary partnerships in Big Records and archival analytics through public / industry / government partnerships. DCIC sponsors interdisciplinary projects that explore the integration of archival research data, user-contributed data, and technology to generate new forms of analysis and historical research.
